TITLE
Operator sustains grazed/bruised back from contact with scaffolding -non-treatment injury - BMAPA Alert
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN
ACCIDENT / INCIDENT DETAILS
A UK marine aggregate dredger was undergoing its annual dry dock. Scaffolding had been erected in the vicinity of the aft screening tower to facilitate in its removal. The scaffolding was erected across the starboard side walkway which restricted the walkway, with the scaffolding platform only being 1.5m above the spillway. The erected scaffolding had red and white hazard tape applied to highlight the low height of the scaffolding and the protruding scaffolding clips whilst waiting on delivery of protective foam.
The IP transited this walkway for general access to the engine room and in doing so, whilst crouched down, impacted his back on the protruding scaffolding clips. This caused a small abrasion and bruise on the left side under the shoulder.
It has been identified that there was inattention to immediate surroundings as the scaffolding was highlighted with hazard tape.
